The Fifth International West Lake Symposium on Fusion Plasma Physics has been held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on May 25-27, 2011. This year’s West Lake International Symposium covered turbulence and coherent structures, energetic particle physics and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities in magnetized fusion plasmas, as well as interactions between intensive laser fields and plasmas in inertial fusion are particularly relevant.
The symposium was hosted by Institute for Fusion Theory and Simulation (IFTS), Zhejiang University, with about 86 participants from China, Germany, Japan, the United States and Italy. There were totally 31 talks presented including invited talks and oral talks. The postdocs and graduate students were encouraged to make poster presentations. Intensive discussions have been made among the attendees to improve domestic and international communication and collaboration. The conference was organized by an international program committee led by Prof. Jiaqing Dong of IFTS.
